Black Canyon Limited
Located in the mineral rich exporting hub of the Pilbara Region in Western Australia. Black Canyon Limited (ASX:BCA) was established to explore, discover, and develop manganese deposits.
Our projects comprise more than 2,400km² of prospective tenure in a premier mining jurisdiction (East Pilbara), close to the operating Woodie Woodie and Butcherbird manganese mines.
Exploration and mineral resource drilling across the Balfour Manganese Field has been highly successful for the Company, which has now delineated a Global Mineral Resource Estimate totalling 314Mt @ 10.5% Mn containing 33.1 Mt of manganese classified as Measured (32%) Indicated (48%) and Inferred (20%). Importantly, a higher-grade components has been established, totalling 99 Mt @ 12.9% Mn containing 12.8 Mt of Manganese, classified as Measured (25%) Indicated (30%) and Inferred (45%).
A Scoping Study has been completed for the Flanagan Bore (BCA 75%) Project in August 2022, which confirmed robust economics, 20-year mine life, with low development CAPEX and an NPV of $134m and IRR of 67%. This project would produce close to 500,000t of manganese concentrate between 30 – 33% Mn upgrading insitu ore grades of between 10 and 15% Mn through simple beneficiation comprising scrubbing, washing and dense media separation. The manganese concentrates are sold to smelters to produce ferro or silico manganese alloys used in the manufacture of steel.
Black Canyon is well positioned to evaluate its additional ambition of midstream processing manganese ores from our East Pilbara projects to produce battery grade high purity manganese sulphate (HPMSM) for electric vehicle Li-Ion batteries. The Company recognises the tremendous global growth for manganese in electric vehicle demand within NMC, HLM and LFMP cathode-based batteries in the race to reduce battery cost and maximise energy density by increasing manganese content.
